Random Cracking Across the Ribs
Cause:
Continuous exposure to high temperatures and bending stress around the idlers will cause cracking. Cracks start at the top of the groove and grow into the thread inside the belt. As a rule of thumb, if cracks appear about 1 or 2 cm apart, 80% of the belt life has been lost and the belt should be replaced.
Solution:
Check engine temperature and replace the belt, and use a belt that performs properly at engine temperature.
